So, some of you have already heard these since I am long overdue to post, but I figured I better go ahead and write them down before they are completely gone from memory…
Conversations:
We were all riding in the car together and Joel and I were trying to carry on a conversation in the front seat. KJ was singing in the back. The more we chatted, the louder her singing became, until it truly was impossible to keep speaking to each other. Joel hollered back into the back seat that he was trying to talk with Mommy and she was being too loud. She calmly replied, “It’s okay, Joel. It’s okay.” Then, attempting the art of distraction, “Do you see that red truck?”
Playing in our little plastic pool lately has been fun. We have incorporated some pretending into our play after splashing and pouring get boring. Her favorite has been playing “doctor.” The slide is the ambulance ride to the “hopsibul” (hospital) and we take turns being the patient. Yesterday, she came to Dr. JoKeon with a diagnosis of “some ears hurting.” I asked her what was wrong and she said, “They just feel sad.” I gave her some “medicine” in her ear and recommended a good cleaning then asked if they were better. “No, they’re still sad.” I guess she will be seeking a second opinion if her insurance provider allows it.
Knowing where we are:
Keira is proving that she will have a better sense of direction than her mother. Shocking. She really is her father’s daughter in every way… While driving around recently, she has been pointing and asking questions like, “Are we going this way or that way?” I’ll answer and she’ll say something like, “Not that way, like going to the gym with Maggie.” And, she’ll be right. We were driving towards one the grocery stores we frequent which has a little 50 cent ride she loves but we don’t always do. As we neared the parking lot, she said, “Um Mommy, do you have any money, mommy?” Yes, I did.
Bragging rights:
KJ is getting really good at recognizing letters and is trying to spell things like her name. Usually it comes out like “K E RR A !” The ride on toy at Harris Teeter sings a song and spells his name, “H- A- R- R- Y” And she likes songs like “B-I_N-G-O” (which Mema adapted to her name) and “The B-I-B-L-E.”
She is consistently getting to the potty on-time for #2. Hooray!
Though she didn’t make it through a recent family wedding, she did decide that nursery was not for her yesterday at church, and stayed in the service with me the whole time quietly. She only lay out on the floor once in defiance to mommy not dancing how she wanted.
